Robert D. Shannon, CPA
Bob Shannon founded his company to help people put a critical part of their lives in order: their finances.
He works with small business owners, sole proprietors, retirees and others to help them keep their books and financial records; to file tax returns and to run their businesses using the best data.
Bob has learned, from his over 25 years in local practice, that small business owners, in particular, work under an enormous burden of having to file many reports with few resources. By listening to business owners, he learned that he could help them by providing superior financial statements, reports and tax returns at a reasonable cost.
Bob particularly enjoys working with high tech-startups that have interesting technology and, potentially, the ability/capacity to make a real, positive difference in the world.
He has developed a system for setting up accounting records and integrating tax requirements with the general ledger, that allows him to produce the reports and analysis required to run the business, as well as to produce financial reports for the government and other credit grantors plus the tax returns required by the IRS.
By working closely with business owners and their employees, he gains a working knowledge of their businesses and structures his accounting systems so that they are tailored to each client’s needs.
A CPA since 1982, Bob’s background includes time at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, one of the “Big Four” accounting firms, the General Motors Tax Staff and several auto suppliers. He has also spent over twenty years working in local CPA firms and working with small clients for whom he served as CPA.He has been able to apply the knowledge gained at these firms in a cost effective manner to the problems of smaller firms.
Bob has also worked for several non-profits, and has taught accounting, finance, and economics at several universities and community colleges in the Ann Arbor and southeast Michigan area. When he can, he likes to read, attend movies, bike, hike and kayak. He is an historian, concentrating on American and European history in the 19th and 20th centuries.
